aught.work is a collection of 16 NFT .gifs, which are goverened by four hex shades:
FFFFFF,
808080,
404040, 202020; and five paths of movement: y-axis, x-axis, y=x, y=-x, in/out. A third motif in this project is the use of 2n, which dictates this size of each aught and the color palate. Take n=8 and we find the .gif dimention: 256x256px. For the color palate, take n=5 and we find each RGB value of the darkest shade. The colors come from n: [5,8] rather than n: [0,8] as the contrast between colors n: [0,4] is not sufficient to highlight the movement of shapes. Note that a fifth shade E6E6E6 is the background of the poster/site and is not included in any aught, but derived from n=7.84545 or RGB code 230.MEANING
AUGHT.WORK (awt-WERK)
Created by BLOCKCHAINPHILANTHROPIST Michael Wolak in the late summer of 2021, aught.work seeks to create complexity through bounds of simplicity. Wolak grew up in the aughts, a time during which he took speech therapy classes in elementary school, an effort by his parents to get their son to pronounce “R” by common standards. Of course this title is a play on words, and if you’re in need of an explanation: “aught-work” is how a young Wolak would pronouce “art-work” during the early aughts. The use of aught makes sense here too, as a zero, being that this project is Wolak’s start, as an artist, into ideation, creation, production, execution, self progress and development, published as a collection on the blockchain.
